Well, it looks like this FOUR TRILLION DOLLAR bill is going to pass, so let’s talk about everything wrong with this bill:

Cuts to Social Programs

  • Medicaid and Medicare: With roughly 72 million people on Medicaid and 65 million on Medicare (about 12 million of those individuals are dually-enrolled), around 125 million Americans are terrified at the possibility of losing access to healthcare. This bill is projected to cut around 17 million people’s access to such programs.*As an additional note, changes to the ACA (Affordable Care Act) made by this bill will also affect accessability to cheap healthcare.
  • Hospitals: The “Big Beautiful Bill,” is also looking to cut funding for some hospitals in rural areas. Meaning less access to healthcare for those that are not within larger cities.
  • Food Stamps: Around 42 million people are on some type of SNAP or EBT benefits. As someone who grew up with food stamps, we often barely had enough to feed us and stretched it very thinly. With disabled parents, money either went to food or the power bill/rent; I’m glad we had the ability to have Food Stamps. I would have starved if not for that and the school programs that offered free lunch and breakfast.
