How The Common Cold Takes Me Out

Life With Chronic Illnesses

Hi everyone, I am so sorry for being MIA for the last week. I’m trying to be more consistent with my writing and reading here on Medium. But sometimes chronic illnesses change the way my day goes.

Unfortunately, my 4th of July plans ruined my past week. We went to see some friends to celebrate and I went with my friend to the grocery store. If you’re immunocompromised you understand how much of a struggle that can be. I unfortunately did not take a mask with me.

Guess who was there? Sick and snot-nosed kids spreading more germs than the It’s a Small World ride at DisneyLand.

I’m not quite sure what it was, it felt like COVID (I’ve had it 5 times and I lost my sense of smell/taste), but my doctor said it was more likely a respiratory infection.

I went back to work last Wednesday (after being on an LOA for the last 6 months) and had to miss Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. I felt so helpless.

I know it wasn’t my fault, and my family members, my boss, and my friends support me through everything all the time. I couldn’t be more grateful for the experiences I do have, but I’m tired of being baseline sick and at risk for any other illness(es).

This is a short story and I’d be grateful if you’d stay for at least 30 seconds for it to count as a read. Thank you guys ❤
